FOR BRICK REPAIR

Like stairstep cracks, vertical cracks can also be a sign that your foundation is settling. A brick wall that has a vertical crack that is wider at the bottom than it is at the top indicates a possible sag in the foundation and may need attention. Foundation settlement cracks come in all sizes.

Spalling brick is a common problem that occurs when the surface of a brick begins to flake or peel. This can be caused by a number of factors, including freeze-thaw cycles, exposure to salt, and exposure to moisture.

Crumbling bricks are primarily caused by water absorption, otherwise known as water ingress. Contrary to popular belief, mineral building materials such as brick, stone and render are all porous meaning they absorb moisture.

Most common problems with expansion joints are due to: Inadequate sealing. Failure to ensure that Joints were clean and that no hard materials such as mortar droppings are left before sealing.

The primary reason for a home needing sagging garage lintel repair or replacement is that so many lintels are undersized to begin with. Some lintels also weaken over time because of corrosion.

Brick is one of the hardest and most durable flooring materials available. It requires little to no maintenance, and an installation can last for years. But you still need to repair the mortar and restore Damaged bricks.

What causes the base of a brick wall to collapse? It could be issues with the foundation, it could be loading pressing behind the wall, it could be that backfilling was carried out prematurely, it could be a poor design, poor materials, poor workmanship, it could be tree roots, a leaking drain etc etc.

The Structural Problem

Repointing in areas where the brickwork columns had bowed failed to prevent the columns bowing further. Without specialist structural repairs the columns and arches would fail and cause the structure above to collapse.

Repointing is the process of removing damaged mortar joints and renewing them.

Tuckpointing is quite similar but is not always completed for damage control. Tuckpointing by definition is a style that uses two different colors of mortar to alter the appearance of mortar joints, this is an important distinction.

Exterior Masonry Walls /Columns:

Commonly such brick piers can settle over time, resulting in a structural leaning appearance. Under such a condition, the footings of the columns may need to be repaired or re-poured with concrete.

Bad things happen to brick mailboxes. Every year, hundreds are run over by cars and trucks in D/FW alone; many others are vandalized. But way too often it may be the result of poor initial construction–loose bricks, rusted out mail receptacles, deteriorated mortar, and leaning mailboxes–that creates a need for repairs.

There are a number of benefits that come with restoring or cleaning your brickwork.

  • Harmful Bacteria Removal. A common and preferred breeding ground for harmful bacteria.
  • Saving on Extreme Repair Costs.
  • Adding on the Resale Value to your Home.
  • Better Appeal.
  • Prolonged Home Life.

In colder climates, repeated freeze-thaw cycles can cause the water within the mortar to expand and contract. This expansion weakens the mortar and results in cracks. Cracks that indicate more widespread or severe decay, damage or deterioration of the mortar should be taken seriously.

Brick cracks are not normal. They often signify an underlying foundation issue that requires urgent attention. The building's structural integrity could be threatened if the problem isn't promptly addressed. Brick cracks can also compromise the building's aesthetics, reducing its value.

Having matched bricks is important because if you can't find new bricks that are the same color and size, your new brickwork will look out of place or sloppy. This, in turn, can affect the value of your property.

Cracks are one of the most common signs of structural damage in retaining walls. They can be caused by a number of factors, including Settlement, poor drainage, and overloading. If you notice any cracks in your wall, it's important to have them assessed by a professional as soon as possible.

The purpose of weep holes is to provide an outlet for water to drain and escape a building or structure. They can also assist in the ventilation of cavity spaces and relieve hydrostatic pressure from barriers such as retaining walls.

It is not uncommon for walk/pathways to suffer from wear and tear, resulting in cracked or sunken bricks, uneven surfaces, and deteriorating mortar joints.

As the brick veneer develops openings or cracks over time, it could become vulnerable to water. Water damage might still happen in new brick veneers if installed incorrectly.

One of the most important things that you can do to prevent costly damage to your brick masonry is to inspect your home's exterior annually for signs of damage.
